The 2017 European 5G Annual Journal has been released
Brussels, November 27th, 2017 – The 2017 European 5G Annual Journal has been released.
Covering the activities of the 5G PPP in the period between mid-2016 and mid-2017, the Annual Journal highlights the results and impacts of the 5G PPP over the last year, and discusses the way forward for both the 5G PPP and the 5G Infrastructure Association (5G-IA) in the year to come.
“The 5G Infrastructure PPP programme and related projects achieved outstanding progress and impact in the period mid 2016-mid 2017,” said Didier Bourse, Chairman of the 5G Initiative Technology Board & Chairman of the 5G‑IA Trials WG.” All projects were full speed during this period, some contractually terminating end of June 2017. When Phase 2 projects started in June 2017, 40 Phase 1 and Phase 2 projects were active, ensuring an outstanding momentum and dynamism. Beyond the Phase 1 projects achievements that have been reported in the Annual Journal, a lot of joint (crossprojects) and programmatic achievements have been achieved, thanks to the overall operation and efficiency developed.”
“The 5G PPP has made a dramatic impact on European 5G leadership,” said Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Board, 5G PPP.” To build upon the conclusion of the the first phase of projects ending and the start of the second phase of projects, we have renewed the governance and leadership of the 5G PPP, with the 5G Industry Association being the sole organisation representing and responsible for the private side of the 5G PPP.”
Under the new governance structure, the 5G‑IA formally interacts with the European Commission through a partnership Board, and closely coordinates its Policy Work Groups with the 5G Initiative Projects and Technical Work Groups. The Networld 2020 Experts and Task Groups no longer formally belong to the 5G PPP organisation, but will continue to actively collaborate in relevant areas.
“The 5G PPP and the 5G-IA conducted many communication activities in the past year,” said Jean-Pierre Bienaimé, Secretary General of the 5G Infrastructure Association & Chairman of the 5G Initiative Steering Board. “This greatly increased their visibility on the European and worldwide scenes, through news and press releases, organisation of events, and intense social media promotion. Highlights included the 2nd Global 5G Event, hosted in Rome in November 2016 ; the 5G Action Plan Press & Media Event: from Research to Trials, at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona ; and the successful edition of the EuCNC (European Conference on Networks and Communications) in June 2017 in Oulu. In the field of international cooperation, a MoU was signed between the 5G-IA and the Telebrasil-5G Brazil Project, followed by the extension of the Multilateral MoU between Europe, China, Japan, Korea, USA and Brazil.”
The full results of the 5G PPP and 5G-IA’s activities can be read in the 2017 Annual Journal, whilst their ongoing activities can be monitored at the 5G PPP news and press pages, or by following them on twitter (@5GPPP).
