mmMAGIC @2nd International Workshop on mmW5G (March 19, 2017)

March 19, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - March 20, 2017 @ 1:00 am CET

mmMAGIC is organising the 2nd International Workshop on Millimeter Wave-Based Integrated Moible Communications for 5G Networks (mmW5G) on March 19, 2017 in San Francisco (USA). The workshop is co-located with IEEE WCNC 2017 (19-22 March 2017).

Millimeter wave communication has generally been acknowledged as one of the enablers to meet the requirements of future communication systems, in particular to provide the high bandwidth necessary to achieve the expected high data rates for extreme broadband. However, to overcome the adverse propagation conditions at higher frequencies, high gain beamforming at transmitter and receiver ends on multi-node co-ordination solutions are actively pursued now. This kind of directional, coordinated communication leads to a new design paradigm for future systems which is much more complex than their counterparts operating at lower frequencies. There are multiple challenges in properly understanding the mm-wave radio channel,  designing radio systems with multiple RF chains at these higher frequencies, channel estimation and beam tracking under mobility, co-ordination and interference management in ultra-dense networks etc. However there have been significant advancements in the mm-wave technologies over the past few years, leading to prototype systems now being developed.

This workshop will bring together the leading names in industry, academia and research institutes to discuss and debate the latest developments in this area. It offers a unique opportunity for researchers in this field to disseminate their results in all areas of mm-wave communications to a diverse audience. The workshop invites authors to submit original and previously un-published research papers in the following and related topics:

  • Mm-wave channel sounding and modeling
  • Antenna design and characterization
  • Advanced multiple antenna systems (including massive MIMO)
  • Mm-wave beamforming techniques (Hybrid, Analog and Digital)
  • Efficient transceiver architectures and design
  • Advanced transceiver schemes for access, backhaul and self-backhaul
  • Novel channel estimation techniques considering the channel sparsity
  • Robust transceiver design taking into account hardware impairments and CSI imperfections
  • Multi-node/multi-beam coordination and cooperation at mm-wave frequencies
  • Coverage analysis of ultra-dense mm-wave networks
  • Mobility handling schemes in mm-wave networks
  • Mm-wave channel modelling and measurements
  • Mm-wave air interface and waveform candidates
  • Mm-wave prototyping efforts
  • Network architecture aspects (stand-alone, non-stand-alone) for mm-wave systems

About mmMAGIC
The main objective of this 5G PPP project is to develop and design new concepts for mobile radio access technology (RAT) for deployment in the 6-100 GHz range. This is envisaged as a key component in the 5G multi-RAT ecosystem and will be used as a foundation for global standardization.

IEEE WCNC is focused exclusively on wireless research, technology, and applications. The conference program includes workshops, tutorials, and panel discussions on today’s state-of-the-art as well as what the wireless future will look like. An expanded industry program, including a large exhibition hall showcasing the latest wireless technology, will provide opportunities for industry professionals to share and learn about the latest ideas, trends, and product innovations in the wireless industry.
