SUMMARY:EMPOWER Workshop "EmpoweringTransatlantic platforms for 5G Advanced and 6G networks" @EuCNC
DESCRIPTION:EMPOWER 5G PPP project organises a Workshop on “EmpoweringTransatlantic platforms for 5G Advanced and 6G networks” at EuCNC 2022 in Grenoble\, France on June 7 @14:00-15:30/16:00-17:30 CEST. \nVarious countries and regions have already announced formal plans of government support for their research and development efforts that will define 6G. One of the primary missions of this workshop is to bring industry\, government\, and academia to the table to begin working on testbed requirements much earlier in the innovation lifecycle than has been done for previous generations. The enabling technologies such as separation between the network and the compute\, virtualization\, distribution and Cloud SaaS afford us the opportunity to define physical and digital platforms for at-scale research and experimentation. This trend is going to impact the telecommunication and computer-based sectors\, from design to products to operation and this is where the testbeds meet the network as a fully controllable\, programmable virtualized test platform. The science of Digital Infrastructures raises multiple complex challenges to the research community that already started to explore them in the context of the forthcoming 6G. Experimentation is becoming an even more important methodology to assess and qualify the diverse design assumptions and choices in realistic conditions. It is now timely not only to strengthen existing facilities ready for 5G testing but most importantly start developing early 6G platforms as most components are software-based. This is the motivation for developing a holistic approach where all resources (compute\, storage\, network) are associated to continuously design\, operate and automate the full life cycle management of applications and services. Experimental platforms should be able to address the end-to-end scenario\, integrating all technologies and components. Such platform will allow researcher and industry to question scientific challenges regarding the future technologies and services. They will be based on a technology roadmap that will be consolidated on the basis of the analysis of several inputs provided by the community regarding the wireless technology advances\, that are pertinent to the evolution of new radio (NR) and core network (CN) unti-2030. It is important to note that initiatives exist at the international level with ambitious projects and programmes like EU ESFRI SLICES (2021- 2040\, 150M€)\, EC H2020 5G Infrastructure PPP (2015-2023\, 700 M€) and forthcoming EC HEU SNS JU (2022-2030\, 900 M€)\, in the US (NSF PAWR 2017-2022 100M$\, NSF FABRIC 2019-2024 20M€)\, BRIDGES (2021-2024\, 2.5M$) and China (CENI 018-2022 190M€)\, and efforts also developing in Japan.

SUMMARY:5G-SMART webinar on “Architecture Integration of 5G-enabled Industrial Networks with Edge Computing for Smart Manufacturing”
DESCRIPTION:The EU project 5G-SMART\, led by Ericsson\, is organizing a webinar on “Architecture Integration of 5G-enabled Industrial Networks with Edge Computing for Smart Manufacturing” with János Harmatos (Ericsson) and Markosz Maliosz (Budapest University of Technology and Economic) as presenter on 5th May\, 2022 at 3 pm CEST with 75 minutes duration. \n  \nRegistration to the event is required here. \n  \nAbstract: \nEdge computing provides an ecosystem\, which brings the execution environment and technology resources (e.g.\, compute\, storage infrastructure) closer to  the end points where the data is generated. Leveraging the 3GPP ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) and different non-public network (NPN) options\, Edge computing will be able to play an important role in the support of wide-range of time-critical Industry 4.0 use cases\, which requires end-to-end robustness with ultra-low latency.  The webinar present architectural and system aspects on how the different edge computing deployment options (e.g.\, on-premise private\, 3rd party operator provided) can be integrated with 3GPP 5G-enabled NPNs and/or legacy wired Industrial Ethernet/TSN networks. One specific area\, which is deeply discussed is the enhanced reliability\, where interworking between the reliability toolset of the TSN and the edge computing domains is showcased. Beyond the architectural integration aspects\, as an example realization of edge computing\, the investigation on the capabilities of the Kubernetes container orchestration platform is presented together with the gap analysis for smart manufacturing requirements \n  \nWebinar speakers: \nDr. János Harmatos is a senior researcher et Ericsson Research in Budapest. He received his PhD degree in communication networks from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2005. He has research experience in the areas of mobile backhaul network design\, 5G network-supported factory automation solutions\, service and network orchestration in multi-domain\, multi-provider ecosystem. In the recent years\, he has been contributing to several standardization forums\, including 3GPP\, ETSI\, 5G-ACIA. Currently he works on system integration aspects of 5G-enabled industrial networks and edge computing\, as well as investigating reliable\, cloud-native control application solutions for Industry 4.0. \n  \nDr. Markosz Maliosz is an associate professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)\, Department of Telecommunications and Media Informatics\, High Speed Networks Laboratory. He received his PhD (2006) and MSc (1998) degrees in computer science in the field of communication systems from BME. He worked as a guest researcher and consultant at telecommunication companies in the areas of network performance evaluation and IP multimedia subsystem applications. His research interests include network architectures and design\, optimization techniques\, and traffic engineering. His current research activity focuses on network virtualization and optimization and edge/cloud networking for Industry 4.0. He is the co-author of over 40 publications. \n The vision of the 5G-SMART project (www.5gsmart.eu) is to empower Europe’s manufacturing sector with 5G solutions by integrating 5G in the manufacturing ecosystem\, resulting in an accelerated digital transformation. This is done within the project by demonstrating and validating 5G in real-world factory setups\, exploring the roles of mobile network operators and new business models as well as developing new 5G features targeting the manufacturing sector. 5G-SMART lead by Ericsson brings together a strong consortium of partners involved in every aspect of the manufacturing ecosystem.

SUMMARY:8th StandICT.eu 2023 Walk & Talk Webinar "Emerging DLT Standards - Connecting the networks"
DESCRIPTION:The StandICT.eu project would like to invite you to attend the 8th Walk & Talk Webinar “Emerging DLT Standards – Connecting the networks”\, on May 5th\, from 11:00 to 13:00 CET \nScope of the event \nBlockchains and DLTs are foundational architectures emerging in both technical interoperability and global enterprise contexts. The expectation that distributed ledger technology can deliver peer-to-peer\, trust-based services in the low-trust environment of disintermediated global digital trade is ambitious. The added expectation that DLTs also meet oversight\, regulation and compliance requirements relating to multiple trade territories\, nation state and federated contexts is game-changing. This is the context in which technical standards are being written. \nThe global perspectives presented here\, lend depth and insight into the success\, opportunities and barriers to blockchain and DLT acceptance. We discuss where we are on the roadmap to global\, ubiquitous adoption. Are DLTs fundamental to the world wide web of global trade? Does applied game theory work in cooperative multi-party enterprise? Or is the Metaverse the Tragedy of the Commons write large? \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_66ZOFU82SHqk3Sk8JpCR-g
