SUMMARY:R&I Goals and Opportunities for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks
DESCRIPTION:The 6G-IA\,  together with AENEAS\, organised a open webinar on : \nR&I Goals and Opportunities for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks\nOn Thursday 15 December 2022  at 10:00 CET\nThe purpose of the webinar was to summarise the European policies and goals for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks and to discuss the related 2023 calls for projects in this area in both the KDT JU and the SNS JU programmes.waw \nBackground\nThe current race towards the definition of 6G systems has already started and is the subject of vibrant competition from Europe’s main competitors\, notably the US\, China\, Japan and South Korea. Microelectronics is becoming a key issue for competitive solutions provided by European vendors and suppliers and microelectronics companies worldwide are also expected to play an important role in the 6G standardisation activities – which should start around 2025. It is hence important to have a critical mass of microelectronic actors well prepared to contribute to the standardisation process\, especially for the lower radio layers where the bulk of essential patents for standards implementation are usually located. \nThe European Chips Act\, adopted by the Commission in early 2022 aims to enhance Europe’s competitiveness and resilience in semiconductor technologies and applications and help achieve both the digital and green transition. One of its objectives is to help Europe reach leadership in chips for digital connectivity infrastructures. Europe has a leading position in the global connectivity infrastructure market\, while at the same time has strong dependencies on chipset vendors from outside the European Union. \nIn this context\, and with the clear aim of reinforcing European strength in microelectronics and connectivity\, the KDT and SNS JUs are both launching focus topics as complementary activities in their respective Work Programmes. \nProgramme\n\nOpening – Welcome\nColin Willcock GB Chairman 6G-IA & SNS JU GB Chairman and Caroline Bedran Director General AENEAS\nEuropean policy on micro-electronics for connectivity\nFrancisco Ibanez – Microelectronics and Photonics Industry\, Unit A.3\, DG CNECT  and Bernard Barani Deputy Head of Unit E.1\, DG CNECT \n6G related topics in the context of KDT\nEric Fribourg-Blanc- KDT JU Programme Officer and Patrick Cogez Technical Director AENEAS\nMicro-electronics related topics for 6G networks and systems in the context of the SNS JU\nPavlos Fournogerakis SNS JU Programme Officer and Alex Kaloxylos Executive Director 6G-IA\nQ&A\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:"NativeNI - The 1st International Workshop on Native Network Intelligence"
DESCRIPTION:In recent years we witnessed a growing interest towards leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to innovate network operations at all layers\, domains and planes. Yet\, if\, what and where we need to integrate intelligence in networks and how to (re)design networks for the native support of AI is still largely under debate. This is due to the multi-faceted nature of the challenges behind such integration: on the one hand\, network architectures must be updated to accommodate AI models and their lifecycle by design (e.g.\, collecting and provisioning data in real-time\, balancing centralized versus distributed computing approaches\, empowering low latency requirements for fast closed-loop decision-making and network function automation); on the other hand\, the design of AI models shall improve to better align with the myriad of requirements of production network systems (e.g.\, inference latency\, computational complexity\, trustworthiness of AI decisions); finally\, operational procedures in research must be enhanced for verifiabilty\, reproducibility and real-world deployment (e.g.\, establishing reference datasets\, sharing trained models without sacrificing models explainability\, robustness or safety). \nThe NativeNI – The 1st International Workshop on Native Network Intelligence\, co-located with ACM CoNEXT 2022\, held in Rome\, Italy on December 9\, 2022\, will provide you with pragmatic answers to all these points are paramount to enable a transition of the current large body of literature on AI for networking from academic exercises to solutions integrated in production systems. \nPlease also find below a CfP to the first installment of NativeNI. \nThis workshop aims to bringing together researchers from academia and industry who are committed to making AI in networks a reality. We call for contributions from researchers working in the areas of network systems\, applied machine learning and data science. We seek contributions that range from visionary position papers to promising ideas and prototypes\, all the way to fully deployed solutions. All submissions should contribute to the common goal of making AI a viable and native technology for mobile networks. \n  \nTopics of interest include (but are not limited to): \n\nNetwork architectures and infrastructures for native AI support\nAI requirements for integration in network environments\nNetwork traffic data collection and analysis for AI support\nLow-latency AI for networks\nCompute-prudent AI for networks\nTailored AI models for network management and orchestration\nData availability for data-driven research and development\nEthics in AI for networking\nOn-device\, cloud-driven or off-line application of AI for networking\nCentralized or distributed computational paradigm to support AI models\nAutoML and AI automation for networking\nMeta-learning for networking\nAI for Intent-Based Networking\nExplainability\, robustness\, safety of AI model deployments in networks\nOpen-access datasets for the training and testing of AI models for networks\nOpen-source tools for the assessment of AI models for networks\nExperimental deployments of AI in network systems.\n\n  \nSubmission instructions \nAuthors should submit only original work that has not been published before and is not under submission to any other venue. All submitted papers will be assessed through a double-blind review process. This means that the authors do not see who are the reviewers and the reviewers do not see who are the authors. \nSubmissions should be six pages maximum\, plus one page for references\, in 2-column 10pt ACM format\, and registered at https://nativeni22.hotcrp.com. \nPlease see the workshop website at https://nativeni.github.io/  for full information on the double submission process and paper formatting rules. \n  \nImportant dates \n\nAbstract registration: September 23rd\, 2022\nSubmission:            September 30th\, 2022\nNotification:          October 16th\, 2022\nCamera ready:          October 25th\, 2022\nWorkshop Event:        December 9th\, 2022\n\n  \nContacts \nFor any questions please reach out to the workshop chairs: \n\nAlessandro Finamore (Huawei Technologies\, France) – alessandro.finamore(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)huawei.com\nMarco Fiore (IMDEA Networks Institute) – marco.fiore(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)imdea.org\nCarlee Joe-Wong (Carnegie Mellon University) – cjoewong(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)andrew.cmu.edu

SUMMARY:CfP Symposium on next-generation networking and internet @ IEEE Future Networks World Forum
DESCRIPTION:Symposium co-chairs \n\nThomas Magedanz\, Technical University of Berlin\, Germany\, thomas.magedanz(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)fokus.fraunhofer.de\nPeriklis Chatzimisios\, International Hellenic University\, Greece\, University of New Mexico\, USA\, pchatzimisios(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)ihu.gr\nPaolo Bellavista\, University of Bologna\, Italy\, paolo.bellavista(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)unibo.it\n\nScope and motivation\nWe are witnessing a progressing softwarization of telecommunication networks driven by the increasing impact of information and Internet technologies. This softwarization has driven and accelerated two types of convergence: on the one hand\, the convergence of fixed and mobile networks; on the other hand\, with the rise of 5G networks\, the convergence of telecommunications and the Internet\, particularly when looking at the Internet of things. \nAlthough international standards are key for defining reference architectures\, interfaces\, and protocols\, we can notice that the diversity of application domains and their related value chains and business models is creating a huge complexity and slowing down the early exploitation of technological  innovations in this highly converging and articulated landscape. More pragmatic and innovative approaches might be needed to build agile future networking infrastructures\, which will meet and dynamically adapt to the various evolving vertical demands\, also enabled by the agile softwarization of the next-generation networking and Internet infrastructures. For example\, emerging private enterprise and campus networks could be seen as a market-driven approach to bypass to the mainstream public network evolution\, acting as a catalyst for accelerating agile innovations. Emerging open network approaches and the concept of disaggregation of network functionalities will pave the way for new\, more open\, and less rigid networking ecosystems. In this perspective\, also the exploitation of emerging AI/ML techniques for networking are going to accelerate the process\, by enabling automated network management/optimization and by allowing even non-experts to build and operate their own customized next-generation networks. \nMany of the above mentioned trends are associated with 6G research\, but they are already emerging right now in the context of 5G evolution\, with significant impacts on next-generation networking evolution. This symposium aims at focusing on the evolution of network softwarization towards the provisioning of customized and dedicated end-to-end networks\, with personalized and dynamics QoS management/SLAs\, also in presence of pervasive utilization of virtualization/containerization techniques over networking infrastructure nodes\, while decoupling the discussions from a specific mobile network generation. In this perspective\, the symposium has the ambition of identifying the primary challenges and opportunities in building up secure and reliable open networking environments for ensuring a rapid\, efficient\, and sustainable digital transformation of our industries and our society. \nTopics of interest \nWe invite submissions on a wide range of research topics about softwarized next-generation networking and the Internet (NGNI)\, to be addressed from both academic and industrial viewpoints\, related but not restricted to the following topics: \n\nOpen networking approaches and toolkits for NGNI\nEnd-to-end network function disaggregation and composition (beyond Open RAN\, NFV\, etc)\nAccess network convergence (fixed\, mobile\, NTNs\,…)\nReference architectures/frameworks for NGNI\nNetwork abstractions and open APIs for NGNI\nNetworking as part of applications vs. multi-purpose networks (network slicing)\nVirtualization technologies and infrastructures in the cloud continuum (at end systems\, edge 0nodes\, cloud)\nQoS/QoE management and orchestration in open virtualized NGNI\nEnd-to-end network programming\nNovel software paradigms for integrated 0000control and management\nPrivate campus and enterprise (e.g.\, Industrial IoT) networks\nApplication visions from different verticals (Multimedia vs Industrial IoT)\nNetwork operation models (public\, private\, P2P\, …)\nNetwork interworking\, interoperability\, and interdomain networking\nNetwork migration and evolution\nLife cycle management and innovative new deployment models (NGNI CD/CI\, NGNI DevOps)\nAI/ML for network automation and optimization (NGNI MLOps)\nEnd system evolution and related future HMIs\nOpen Source vs. global standards\nValue chains and business models for NGNI\nScalability and wide-scale performance evaluation of NGNI infrastructures and applications\nSecurity and Identity Management\nResilience and sustainability of NGNI\nBest practices\, open testbeds\, and living labs\nEducation for NGNI\n\nImportant dates \n\nPaper Submission: 15 June (Extended)\nNotification: 30 July 2022\nCamera Ready and Registration: 30 August 2022\n\n

SUMMARY:Workshop on 6G KPIs and how to measure them
DESCRIPTION:Workshop description \nThe 5G PPP Test Measurement and KPI Validation work group (TMV WG) invites you to join a workshop to reflect on 6G KPIs and how to measure them. \nBefore EUCNC\, the 5G PPP TMV released a white paper on “Beyond 5G/6G KPIs and Target Values”  based on input from 5G PPP ICT-52-2020 (ICT-52) projects. In this paper\, KPIs from the ICT-52 projects were collected\, described\, and related to existing 5G KPIs. Where available the target values for 6G were provided. \nIn the paper the KPIs were clustered in KPI families based on type and the area that the KPI concerns. As most of the ICT-52 projects were in an early stage at the time of the paper creation\, some of the KPI definitions and the target values and measurement techniques were often not fully defined. \nThe target of this workshop is to discuss the KPI definitions and which measurement techniques exists to monitor them. The workshops also intend to identify potential support for the ICT-52 projects. The workshop will also be the kick-off of the next iteration of the white paper on “Beyond 5G/6G KPIs and Target Values” where the aim is to further refine target values and the measurement techniques\, again based on input from the ICT-52 projects and the 5GPPP TMV working group. \nWe invite all participants to inform us if they would like to contribute to the workshop by September 9th. \nAgenda (preliminary):\n\n\n\nStart time\nTitle\nContent\n\n\n9:00\nWelcome\, Introduction\nTMV (Anastasius Gavras)\nOverview of the agenda\n\n\n9:05\nOverview of the B5G/6G KPI whitepaper\nTMV (Vangelis Kosmatos)\nTMV motivation and methodology for the B5G and 6G KPI paper\n\n\n9:15\nB5G/6G KPIs in ICT-52 projects\n(12 minutes each)\nRISE-6G\nThe Beyond 5G/6G KPIs and Target Values of the RISE-6G project.\n\n\nDEDICAT-6G\nDEDICAT-6G use cases and main B5G/6G KPIs to be addressed in the project\n\n\nHexa-X\nHexa-X vision on what to measure for 6G KPI.\n\n\nTeraFlow & IETF\nTeraFlow overview on network slicing benchmark testing\n\n\nDAEMON\nDAEMON presentation on B5G/6G KPIs and ways to measure/monitor\n\n\nAI@EDGE\nImplementation of a KPI template and tool\, based on the 5GPP standards\, describing important values for the 6G initiative\n\n\n10:30\n\n\nCoffee/tee break\n\n\n10:40\nB5G/6G KPIs in ICT-52 projects\n(12 minutes each)\nMARSAL\nKPIs for ML-Based\, Networking and Computing Infrastructure Resource Management of 6G Networks\n\n\n6G-BRAINS\n6G KPIs for industry environments\n\n\n11:05\nOverview of 5G Tools whitepaper\nTMV (Luca Valcarenghi)\nOverview of 5G Tools measurement and monitoring solutions (5G KPI centred)\n\n\n11:20\nB5G/6G KPI measurement techniques and challenges\n(12 minutes each)\nKeysight\nView from Keysight on B5G/6G measurement techniques\n\n\nACTA / VIAVI\nOverview of the current 5G state-of-the art measurement techniques and results in H2020 projects and then elaborate on the challenges and mythologies for B5G & 6G network validation\n\n\n11:45\nNext steps on the whitepaper and discussions\nTMV (Michael Dieudonne)\nInform about the next white paper effort.  Topical area of the white paper: list of questions and check what the audience is thinking. SUMMARY:AIOTI signature event: IoT and Edge computing : Societal Impact and Opportunities for the Green Digital Twin Transition
DESCRIPTION:AIOTI invites you to its signature event IoT and Edge computing: Societal Impact and Opportunities for the Green Digital Twin Transition\n\n\n\n\n\n \nThe Green Deal wants to decouple economic growth from resource use by 2050\, and transform ‘linear’ take-make-discard industrial value chains into virtuous models that design waste and pollution out of the process\, keeping products and materials in use for longer and helping to regenerate ecosystems. \n  \nAt this event\, we will explore how\, exactly\, are digital solutions enabling sustainability gains? Are they contributing to the EU’s green growth now? And what more can be done to stimulate green growth through digitisation? How can IoT and Edge computing contribute achieving to Green Deal and digital twin transition objectives. \n  \nFor more details\, please visit event webpage: https://aioti.eu/aioti-signature-event-2022/

SUMMARY:Open Living Lab Days 2022
DESCRIPTION:ENoLL supported by the City of Turin\, the House of Emerging Technologies and CTE NEXT organises the Open Living Lab Days 2022 – “The city as a Lab\, but now for real! Re-working open innovation environments for inclusive\, green and digital transition through emerging technologies” on September 20-23 in Turin (Italy).  \nAbout 400 innovators from Europe and around the world are expected for this annual Living Lab event. \nENoLL selected the best papers and workshops that participated in the open calls in the previous months\, and today we have the event program here. \nSome key speakers are announced: Jeff Cherry\, Managing General Partner at Conscious Venture Partners\, and Gianluca Galletto\, Urban Innovation Expert and former Chairs Office\, MD Tech & Innovation Parterships at NYC Housings Authority. 5 sub-tracks: Society\, Governance\, Green & sustainable\, Transformation and Beyond the city. \nThere are 4 plenary session panels: \n\nThe House of Emergency Technology in Italy and Beyond\, where we will illustrate the project and the first results of the Turin CTE NEXT in comparison with other Italian Emerging Technology Houses\, describing how emerging technologies and 5G can be used in the service of citizenship. Of course\, we will also look beyond Italy and exchange practices internationally.\nScaling up\, scaling out and scaling deep for social innovation\, where we will examine the role of public authorities and the third sector in social innovation. Next\, we will explore the replicability of social innovation systems (scaling out) and delve into the roots of social innovation (scaling deep).\nUrban Testing models in Europe and Beyond\, starting with our Torino City Lab we will analyse how city labs are a unique tool for promoting innovation in a holistic and inclusive way. Along with us\, city living labs from Eindhoven\, Nantes\, Nagoya and Medellin will showcase their best practices.\nLiving Labs as enablers of the transformation of European cities toward climate neutrality\, produced in collaboration with the Energy Center in Turin\, Italy\, the panel aims to analyse how living labs can help achieve climate neutrality by 2030. The reflection will take place in the context defined by the EU Mission “Climate Neutral and Smart Cities” and the related goal of having the first 100 climate neutral cities by 2030\, among them Turin.\n\nand many workshops and papers that will take place during parallel sessions in the different areas of OGR Torino\, the location of the event. \nAmong the workshops the one organized by the New European Bauhaus STAvangeR where they will show how “smart art” is a good way to provide innovative methods and tools to governments. The participants will experience how an artist can facilitate the production and sharing of knowledge. \nIn short\, the event is really rich and varied\, but it looks fixedly at the goal of making our cities more sustainable\, innovative\, digital\, future cities capable of meeting the real needs of its inhabitants. \nAlso of note: \n\nThe Learning Lab on September 20\, a day of lectures and workshops to learn about the fundamentals of living labs\, both for newcomers and practitioners. A perfect opportunity to expand one’s knowledge of the living lab approach.\n\n\nThe Gala Dinner on September 22 evening at the Nuvola Lavazza where awards will be presented\, as well as the presentation of new ENoLL members. The dinner will also include a dance party with some ENoLL members on instruments and vocals.\n\n\nAnd finally\, the site visits on September 23: three tracks where you can visit Turin’s innovation sites and talk to local practitioners active in technological\, social and green innovation.\n\nThe event is really a great international showcase\, and for this reason\, please consider reserving a booth. This way you will surely have the opportunity to exchange ideas and insights with professionals\, international researchers\, representatives of the European Union\, city institutions and MISE. The booths can be of two sizes with different prices. You can find the details here. \nFor any information about the event\, tickets and registration please visit the official website which is constantly being updated.
