SUMMARY:6G Evolution Summit\, 3&4 December 2024 (Free Virtual Event)
DESCRIPTION:6G Evolution Summit that will take place on December 3-4\, 2024 as a Free Virtual Event. \nOn December 3\,  Dr. Colin Willcock\, Chairman of the 6G-IA\, will give a keynote speech on the topic “Defining the 6G future: Use cases\, current progress and what to expect”. \nEvent Agenda\nThis conference agenda spans four sessions focusing on the development\, technical challenges\, and sustainability goals associated with 6G technology. \nFull agenda: https://www.fierce-network.com/fiercenetworkcom/6g-evolution-summit-2024 \nSession 1 on December 3\, titled “Defining the 6G Future\,” explores upcoming use cases\, current progress\, and the ecosystem needed for 6G\, focusing on applications like digital sensing and the tactile internet. Keynote speaker Colin Wilcock of 6G IA will open\, followed by a fireside chat with David Soldani from Rakuten and a panel moderated by Stefan Pongratz from Dell’Oro. \nSession 2 addresses “5G Advanced\,” the bridge between 5G and 6G\, emphasizing how 5G Advanced use cases lay the groundwork for 6G development. Preston Marshall of Google will deliver the keynote\, and a panel discussion led by Sylwia Kechiche from OpenSignal will include experts like Professor Monisha Ghosh of SpectrumX. \nSession 3 on December 4\, titled “Navigating the THz Spectrum with AI/ML\,” examines the role of artificial intelligence and machine learning in overcoming THz spectrum challenges essential for 6G. Andreas Roessler from Rohde & Schwarz will present a keynote\, and Monica Paolini of Senza Fili will moderate a panel with Scott Patrick from NTIA. \nSession 4 explores “Delivering on Sustainability Objectives with 6G Connectivity\,” where experts will discuss how 6G can support environmentally sustainable networks through AI-driven efficiency and resource management. Matti Latva-aho from the University of Oulu will lead a fireside chat\, with a panel including Venkatesh Ramaswamy from The MITRE Corporation. \nThe event offers a comprehensive look into how 6G technologies could redefine connectivity\, bridging the present with a more sustainable\, high-speed future. \n\n\n\n\nAbout 6G Evolution Summit\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen Fierce Network first launched the 6G Evolution Summit back in 2022\, there was a slight sense that it was too soon to be talking about this next generation of connectivity before 5G had even taken off. But two years on and we have seen the increased momentum and excitement around the 6G industry which is currently on track to reach a tremendous value of $46.20 billion by 2033. And with the first specifications of 6G detailed in 3GPP’s Release 19 as early as next year\, it’s time for communication service providers (CSPs) to reflect on what progress has been made so far and what needs to be done to foster in the new connectivity ecosystem. Join Fierce Network’s 6G Evolution Summit where we will invite industry leaders to discuss the latest topics and developments in the 6G discussion.

SUMMARY:Call for Papers for SYMPOSIUM ON VISION AND FACTS ON 6G AND FUTURE NETWORKS IN EUROPE
DESCRIPTION:Call for Papers SYMPOSIUM ON VISION AND FACTS ON 6G AND FUTURE NETWORKS IN EUROPE \nThis symposium is co-organized by 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) and the RIGOUROUS project \n===================================================== \n2023 IEEE Future Networks World Forum (FNWF’23) \nTheme: Imagining the network of the future \n13-15 November 2023  \nBaltimore\, MD\, USA \n===================================================== \nIMPORTANT DATES \nSymposium Paper Submission: 21 July 2023 \nSymposium Paper Acceptance Notification: 1 September 2023 \nCamera-Ready Submission: 15 September 2023 \n  \nSymposium Co-Chairs \n* Antonio Skarmeta\, Universidad de Murcia\, Spain \n* Kostas Trichias\, 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) \n* Mario Scillia\, Programme Officer\, European Commission \n* Mikko A. Uusitalo\, Nokia Bell Labs \n  \nSCOPE AND MOTIVATION \nThe work for 6G Networks and Services has started and multiple activities are taking place at global level. Both evolutionary (from B5G networks onwards) and revolutionary approaches are followed to develop\, test and validate innovative technological enablers that will enable the future networks vision at global scale. Some of the aspects investigated by different stakeholders address system architecture\, wireless communication technologies and signal processing\, communication infrastructure technologies and devices and secure service development. \n  \nBesides the technological aspects and technical innovations expected\, 6G networks are also designed bearing in mind the key societal challenges that they must address including environmental\, economic and societal sustainability and technological sovereignty. A wholistic system design approach has become necessary\, addressing both technical and societal aspects and taking into account the complexities of the extended ICT infrastructure and services ecosystem (from vendors and operators\, to service providers and individual users). \n  \nWithin this global movement\, Europe is attempting to take a leading role towards the creation of a hopefully single 6G global standard\, both on a National level as well as on an EU-level. Some of the EU efforts in this sector can be reflected by the establishment of the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) as a legal and funding entity\, as well as by the creation of several National Initiatives (NI) on a member-state level\, through the funding of multi-million euro flagship projects\, targeting technology development\, fostering national innovation and maximization of business impact. \n  \nThe SNS-JU targets a reinforced European leadership in the field of next generation network technologies (6G)\, connected devices and services\, while accelerating European digital industry uptake and digitisation of economy and society. To that end\, a first set of 35 Research and Innovation (R&I) projects have already been funded and started their operations\, while  multiple additional projects will be funded until the end of the SNS-JU program (2030) reaching a total of 1.8 Billion funding from the public and private EU sectors combined. Additional EU partnerships and associations addressing micro-electronics\, AI and Robotics\, photonics\, high-performance computing and more\, are working in collaboration with the SNS-JU and the NIs\, covering all aspects of the necessary technology development for future 6G networks in a wholistic approach. \n  \nThe goal of this symposium is to present the current advances and approaches to reach 6G and Future Networks vision in Europe and its respective R&I ecosystem\, as well as the steps that have been taken to address different enabling technologies / technical enablers and the respective societal challenges. Moreover\, the approach towards system-oriented R&I and dedicated prototyping and experimentation will be presented\, complementing long-term R&I on disruptive concepts\, considering also existing and future collaborations with other regions of the world. \n  \nTOPICS OF INTEREST \nWe invite original\, high-quality research papers that address the aforementioned aspects for beyond 5G and 6G communication networks. The symposium aims to bring together researchers\, practitioners\, and industry experts to exchange ideas\, discuss challenges\, and propose solutions for the next-generation design of 6G networks. \n  \nWe invite submissions on a wide range of research topics\, spanning both theoretical and systems research\, including results from industry and academic/industrial collaborations\, related but not restricted to the following topics\, presenting the actual work and future trends in the research and innovation on 6G in Europe: \n  \nResearch for revolutionary technology advancements\, in preparation for 6G and revolutionary advancements of IoT\, devices and software. \nEnablers and Proof of Concepts (PoCs) used to further develop\, federate and consolidate experimental infrastructure(s)\, focusing on energy efficient technologies for 6G and open to integrate microelectronics developments coming from other programmes. \nLarge-scale Trials and Pilots with Verticals\, including the required infrastructure. The aim is to explore and demonstrate technologies and advanced applications and services for the vertical domains\, as well as the necessary architecture and technological enablers required for large experimentation facilities. \nRelevant approaches to deal with societal challenges such as sustainability\, energy efficiency\, etc. across verticals\, validating the exploitation of 6G across different vertical sectors\, and its dual approach towards sustainability (6G for sustainability & sustainable 6G). \nCollaboration approaches with other region on the world\, cross-border testbed and experimentation initiatives/facilities. \n  \nSYMPOSIUM PAPER SUBMISSION \nSymposium Paper Submission \nAll papers should be submitted via EDAS\, Symposium on Vision and Facts on 6G and Future Networks in Europe track. Full instructions on how to submit papers are provided on the IEEE FNWF 2023 website. \n

SUMMARY:R&I Goals and Opportunities for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks
DESCRIPTION:The 6G-IA\,  together with AENEAS\, organised a open webinar on : \nR&I Goals and Opportunities for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks\nOn Thursday 15 December 2022  at 10:00 CET\nThe purpose of the webinar was to summarise the European policies and goals for Micro-Electronics in 6G Networks and to discuss the related 2023 calls for projects in this area in both the KDT JU and the SNS JU programmes.waw \nBackground\nThe current race towards the definition of 6G systems has already started and is the subject of vibrant competition from Europe’s main competitors\, notably the US\, China\, Japan and South Korea. Microelectronics is becoming a key issue for competitive solutions provided by European vendors and suppliers and microelectronics companies worldwide are also expected to play an important role in the 6G standardisation activities – which should start around 2025. It is hence important to have a critical mass of microelectronic actors well prepared to contribute to the standardisation process\, especially for the lower radio layers where the bulk of essential patents for standards implementation are usually located. \nThe European Chips Act\, adopted by the Commission in early 2022 aims to enhance Europe’s competitiveness and resilience in semiconductor technologies and applications and help achieve both the digital and green transition. One of its objectives is to help Europe reach leadership in chips for digital connectivity infrastructures. Europe has a leading position in the global connectivity infrastructure market\, while at the same time has strong dependencies on chipset vendors from outside the European Union. \nIn this context\, and with the clear aim of reinforcing European strength in microelectronics and connectivity\, the KDT and SNS JUs are both launching focus topics as complementary activities in their respective Work Programmes. \nProgramme\n\nOpening – Welcome\nColin Willcock GB Chairman 6G-IA & SNS JU GB Chairman and Caroline Bedran Director General AENEAS\nEuropean policy on micro-electronics for connectivity\nFrancisco Ibanez – Microelectronics and Photonics Industry\, Unit A.3\, DG CNECT  and Bernard Barani Deputy Head of Unit E.1\, DG CNECT \n6G related topics in the context of KDT\nEric Fribourg-Blanc- KDT JU Programme Officer and Patrick Cogez Technical Director AENEAS\nMicro-electronics related topics for 6G networks and systems in the context of the SNS JU\nPavlos Fournogerakis SNS JU Programme Officer and Alex Kaloxylos Executive Director 6G-IA\nQ&A\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:In recent years we witnessed a growing interest towards leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to innovate network operations at all layers\, domains and planes. Yet\, if\, what and where we need to integrate intelligence in networks and how to (re)design networks for the native support of AI is still largely under debate. This is due to the multi-faceted nature of the challenges behind such integration: on the one hand\, network architectures must be updated to accommodate AI models and their lifecycle by design (e.g.\, collecting and provisioning data in real-time\, balancing centralized versus distributed computing approaches\, empowering low latency requirements for fast closed-loop decision-making and network function automation); on the other hand\, the design of AI models shall improve to better align with the myriad of requirements of production network systems (e.g.\, inference latency\, computational complexity\, trustworthiness of AI decisions); finally\, operational procedures in research must be enhanced for verifiabilty\, reproducibility and real-world deployment (e.g.\, establishing reference datasets\, sharing trained models without sacrificing models explainability\, robustness or safety). \nThe NativeNI – The 1st International Workshop on Native Network Intelligence\, co-located with ACM CoNEXT 2022\, held in Rome\, Italy on December 9\, 2022\, will provide you with pragmatic answers to all these points are paramount to enable a transition of the current large body of literature on AI for networking from academic exercises to solutions integrated in production systems. \nPlease also find below a CfP to the first installment of NativeNI. \nThis workshop aims to bringing together researchers from academia and industry who are committed to making AI in networks a reality. We call for contributions from researchers working in the areas of network systems\, applied machine learning and data science. We seek contributions that range from visionary position papers to promising ideas and prototypes\, all the way to fully deployed solutions. All submissions should contribute to the common goal of making AI a viable and native technology for mobile networks. \n  \nTopics of interest include (but are not limited to): \n\nNetwork architectures and infrastructures for native AI support\nAI requirements for integration in network environments\nNetwork traffic data collection and analysis for AI support\nLow-latency AI for networks\nCompute-prudent AI for networks\nTailored AI models for network management and orchestration\nData availability for data-driven research and development\nEthics in AI for networking\nOn-device\, cloud-driven or off-line application of AI for networking\nCentralized or distributed computational paradigm to support AI models\nAutoML and AI automation for networking\nMeta-learning for networking\nAI for Intent-Based Networking\nExplainability\, robustness\, safety of AI model deployments in networks\nOpen-access datasets for the training and testing of AI models for networks\nOpen-source tools for the assessment of AI models for networks\nExperimental deployments of AI in network systems.\n\n  \nSubmission instructions \nAuthors should submit only original work that has not been published before and is not under submission to any other venue. All submitted papers will be assessed through a double-blind review process. This means that the authors do not see who are the reviewers and the reviewers do not see who are the authors. \nSubmissions should be six pages maximum\, plus one page for references\, in 2-column 10pt ACM format\, and registered at https://nativeni22.hotcrp.com. \nPlease see the workshop website at https://nativeni.github.io/  for full information on the double submission process and paper formatting rules. \n  \nImportant dates \n\nAbstract registration: September 23rd\, 2022\nSubmission:            September 30th\, 2022\nNotification:          October 16th\, 2022\nCamera ready:          October 25th\, 2022\nWorkshop Event:        December 9th\, 2022\n\n  \nContacts \nFor any questions please reach out to the workshop chairs: \n\nAlessandro Finamore (Huawei Technologies\, France) – alessandro.finamore(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)huawei.com\nMarco Fiore (IMDEA Networks Institute) – marco.fiore(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)imdea.org\nCarlee Joe-Wong (Carnegie Mellon University) – cjoewong(Replace this parenthesis with the @ sign)andrew.cmu.edu
