SUMMARY:24th Conference on Innovation in Clouds\, Internet and Networks
DESCRIPTION:5G rollout has started in many parts of the world and is imminent in others. At the same time\, IoT services and applications in vertical areas like industry 4.0\, smart grids\, eHealth and smart cities which utilize the full capabilities of 5G networks are still emerging. Judging by this demand\, massive IoT (mIoT) or massive machine-type communication (mMTC) has been identified as one of the three main communication scenarios for 5G. For enabling and accelerating the large-scale rollout of 5G-based IoT solutions in a wide range of vertical sectors\, large-scale validation trials are an important step. \nThe workshop aims to gather the results of such validation trials for 5G-based IoT solutions in Europe and beyond. In addition to presenting the technological progress and insights gained from these validation trials\, the workshop will also foster a multidisciplinary discussion between industry and academia\, ICT providers and verticals as well as between the 5G and the IoT research communities. This productive exchange is expected to lead to an identification of existing R&D challenges and new insights on how to address them. \nThe workshop is organized in cooperation with the 5G EVE\, 5G-VINNI\, and 5GENESIS projects. The workshop specifically invites papers on relevant validation trials performed by verticals on the large-scale experimental platforms provided (i.e. 5G infrastructure projects of the 5G PPP or other projects or activities). Papers on validation trials for 5G-based IoT solutions performed in other experimental environments are equally welcome. \nMore information about this event here.

SUMMARY:5G-SMART Webinar on “5G TSN deployment model and time synchronization aspects”
DESCRIPTION:The 5G-SMART project is organizing a webinar entitled “5G TSN deployment model and time synchronization aspects”   on 29 January\, 2021 at 3 pm CET with 90 minutes duration. \n\nBook your agenda for this event and register your anticipated participation here.\nDetails for the webinar link will be given on the 27th of January.\n\n  \nAbstract:  5G supports wireless ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) and has introduced new architectural options such as standalone non-public networks and public network integrated non-public network (PNI-NPN) to enable smart manufacturing use cases. 5G standardization has specified interworking of 5G with TSN so that 5G acts as virtual 5G TSN bridge in a TSN network. This allows to support TSN-based time-critical communication in an integrated 5G-TSN network\, including time synchronization. This webinar presents how 5G can be deployed together with TSN for industrial automation\, by looking into specific manufacturing use cases. These include advanced industrial robotics controlled from the cloud\, communication between industrial controllers\, the centralized control of an AGV fleet\, and adaptive production based on real-time monitoring of the production process. Further\, 5G time synchronization deployment aspects are presented. \n  \nBelow are the webinar speakers: \n\nDr. Joachim Sachs (Ericsson) is a Senior Expert at Ericsson Research in Stockholm\, and coordinates research activities on 5G for industrial Internet of Things solutions and cross-industry research collaborations. After studies in Germany\, Norway\, France and Scotland he received a diploma degree in electrical engineering from Aachen University (RWTH)\, Germany\, and a PhD degree from the Technical University of Berlin. He joined Ericsson in 1997 and has worked on a variety of topics in the area of wireless communication systems\, and has contributed to the standardization of 3G\, 4G and 5G. Since 1995 he has been active in the IEEE and the German VDE Information Technology Society (ITG)\, where he is currently co-chair of the technical committee on communication networks. In 2009 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University\, USA. Dr. Sachs was a recipient of the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award in 2006\, and in 2010 he received the research award of the Vodafone foundation for scientific research.\nDr. Daniel Philip Venmani (Orange) is a senior research and standardization engineer at Orange Labs\, Lannion. His primary research activities focus towards the development of future mobile transport networks\, recently focusing on 5G end-to-end connectivity network architectures. He is very actively involved in Standardization activities – representing Orange at ITU‐T Study Group 15 – Question 13 (Network Synchronization and Time Distribution Performance group)\, Question 12 (Transport Network Architecture Group)\, IEEE1588\, IEEE802.1\, O-RAN WG9 etc. He has been involved in several EU funded research projects over the years and has published his research results in several renounced conferences and journals (IEEE ComMag.\, IEEE Globecom\, ACM MobiCoM\, etc)). He obtained his Ph.D from UPMC-Paris VI (France).\n\n  \nThe vision of the 5G-SMART project (www.5gsmart.eu) is to empower Europe’s manufacturing sector with 5G solutions by integrating 5G in the manufacturing ecosystem\, resulting in an accelerated digital transformation. This is done within the project by demonstrating and validating 5G in real-world factory setups\, exploring the roles of mobile network operators and new business models as well as developing new 5G features targeting the manufacturing sector. 5G-SMART lead by Ericsson brings together a strong consortium of partners involved in every aspect of the manufacturing ecosystem. \n  \nPlease feel free to further distribute this information to interested colleagues. \nThank you for your anticipated participation! \nLink for the registration: https://forms.gle/dr6JETBqxbRwx1wK8

SUMMARY:5G PPP Webinar: 5G for Cooperative\, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM)
DESCRIPTION: \nINTRODUCTION:\nThis webinar was run in two parts with a short introduction from the European commission to start – Over 170 people attended the webinar. \nThe first part showed the ongoing CCAM work and the white paper produced by the three H2020-ICT-18-2018 5G PPP corridor projects:\n 5G-MoBiX\, 5G-CARMEN and 5GCroCo ;\n \nThe CCAM white paper introduces the scope\, use cases\, trial sites and particularities of each of the three H2020-ICT-18-2018 5G PPP corridor projects: 5GCroCo\, 5G-CARMEN and 5G-MoBiX. These projects address a number of technical\, organizational\, business and administrative challenges that the provision of CCAM functionality over 5G connectivity poses in highway and national border (corridors) environments. The projects are performing 5G-enabled Autonomous Driving AD trials at national border conditions and are drawing useful insights regarding the challenges and opportunities of provisioning 5G-enabled CCAM services in cross-border conditions. This white paper\, a joint effort by the three projects\, presents their preliminary results\, based on currently available technological enablers\, with the capacity to mitigate and/or resolve the above mentioned challenges. It also identifies and elaborates on the main concerns and challenges arising from deploying advanced CCAM use cases at regional borders. \nThe second part introduced the new CAM related Projects under the 5G-PPP ICT-53-2020 call:\n5GBlueprint\, 5GMED\,  5G-ROUTES and 5GRail.\n \nThe challenge for the ICT-53 projects is to qualify and characterise the latest version of 5G specifications as available from 3G PP release 16 early 2020 (5G NR-V2X and beyond) in the context of advanced use cases deployment in Europe of CAM that may also benefit from Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions. It targets use cases beyond C-ITS safety applications in view of enabling use cases in the context of complete connectivity-enabled ecosystems around cars and vehicles. It supports the realisation of the strategic objective of having all major transport paths covered with 5G connectivity by 2025 through cross-border trials along major transport paths planned for CAM deployment (“5G corridors”) and paves the way towards operational deployment as envisaged with the Connecting Europe Facility proposal. The work is also relevant to cross border railway corridors in view of providing services to trains\, including in the context of the planned Future Railways Mobile Communication Systems (FRMCS) planned to replace GSM-R around 2030. \nAGENDA:\n\n\n\n\nPart 1:  ICT 18 & CCAM White Paper\nCCAM Webinar Video Part 1\n\n\n10:00 –  10:10\nIntroduction/Welcome\nEuropean Commission welcome: Jorge Pereira\nOrganiser intro:  Kostas Trichias\, WINGS ICT Solutions\n\n\n10:10 – 10:30\n5G-MOBIX\nKostas Trichias\, WINGS ICT Solutions\n\n\n10:30 – 10:50\n5G-CARMEN   5G-CARMEN Video \nAndreas Heider-Aviet\, Deutsche Telekom\n\n\n10:50 – 11:10\n5GCroCo\nAntonio Fernández Barciela\, PSA\n\n\n11:10 –  11:30\nQ & A\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPart 2: Introducing the ICT 53 Projects\nCCAM Webinar Video Part 2\n\n\n11:30 – 11:45\n5G Blueprint\nJohann Marquez-Barja\, IMEC\n\n\n11:45 – 12:00\n5GMed\nRaül González Prats\, Cellnex Telecom\n\n\n12:00 – 12:15\n5G-ROUTES\nUrmas Ruuto \, Ericsson\n\n\n12:15 – 12:30\n5GRail    5GRail Video\nJean-Michel Evanghelou\, UIC\n\n\n\n 12:30 – 12:45\nQ & A\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:5G Trials in Europe - 5G Experimentation Facilities and Vertical Trials
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop was organised by the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos in the frame of EU projects 5GENESIS and 5G!Drones with the support of the 5G-PPP partnership. The workshop will focus on 5G Experimentation Facilities and Vertical Trials\, their current status and future perspectives.  The presentations were appreciated by the almost 100 participants who attended this webinar. \nWebinar outline:\nThe intense research work on 5G realisation has reached the point where the 5G capabilities are ready to be exploited by third party innovators\, also referred to as vertical industries. In this context\, the new ecosystem that emerges on service provisioning over 5G and beyond networks has two major stakeholders. On the one hand\, the verticals that are ready to take advantage of the performance gains and the configuration flexibility that 5G brings; and\, one the other hand\, the operators (or  infrastructure owners) that eventually have a rich toolbox based on the virtualisation and the network slicing features\, which enables new business opportunities. \nFrom the technological point of view\, in the framework of 5GENESIS project coordination and 5G!Drones trial activities\, Dr. Harilaos Koumaras and the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications of NCSR “Demokritos” invite you to participate at the workshop entitled ”5G Experimentation Facilities and Vertical Trials: Current Status and Future Perspectives”\, where the recent developments of the ICT-17 5G experimentation facilities and the ICT-19 vertical trials will be presented. The workshop is further complemented with presentations by invited projects from the Secure Societies and the 5G Long Term Evolution calls\, showing 5G trials in the framework of first responder teams and discussing future perspectives of 5G. \nAgenda\n\n\n\n9:15-9:20:\nWelcome Presentation – WorkShop Logistics\, Harilaos Koumaras\, NCSR Demokritos\n\n\n\n\n\n5G-IA/5G-PPP Session – Introductory Session –   VIDEO 1  –   Moderator:    Harilaos Koumaras\, NCSR Demokritos\n\n\n\n9:20-9:30\n5G PPP Programmatic Perspectives\nDidier Arnaud Bourse\nNOKIA\n\n\n9:30-9:40\n5G-PPP – The Beginning of the End and what comes next\nDan Warren\nSAMSUNG\n\n\n9:40-9:50\n5G PPP Technology Board: Current Status and future activities\nAlexandros Kaloxylos\n5G Infrastructure Association\n\n\n9:50-10:00\nQ&A\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5G Experimentation Platforms (5G-PPP ICT-17 Projects) – VIDEO 2    –   Moderator:    Prof. Pedro Merino\, University of Malaga\n\n\n10:00 – 10:10\n5GENESIS\nHarilaos Koumaras\nNCSR Demokritos\n\n\n10:10 – 10:20\n5G-VINNI\nPal Gronsund\nTELENOR\n\n\n10:20 – 10:30\n5G-EVE\nBoldi Mauro Renato\nTELECOM ITALIA\n\n\n10:30 -10:40\nQ&A\n\n\n\n\n\nCOFFEE BREAK \n\n\n\n5G Vertical Experimentation (5G-PPP ICT-19 Projects) –  VIDEO 3    –  Moderator:    David Kennedy\, EURESCOM  \n\n\n11:00-11:10\n5G-VICTORI\nJesus Gutierrez Teran\nIHP\n\n\n11:10-11:20\n5G-HEART\nFaouzi Bouali\nUniversity of Surrey\n\n\n11:20-11:30\n5G-SOLUTIONS\nDi Giglio Andrea\nTELECOM ITALIA\n\n\n11:30-11:40\n5G!Drones\nJussi Hapola\n Oulu University\n\n\n11:40-11:50\n5G-GROWTH\nCarlos Jesus Bernardos Cano\nUniversidad Carlos III de Madrid\n\n\n11:50-12:00\n5G-TOURS\nBelkacem Mouhouche\nSamsung\n\n\n12:00-12:10\n5G SMART\nLeefke Grosjean\nERICSSON\n\n\n12:10-12:20\nFULL5G\nDavid Kennedy\nEURESCOM\n\n\n12:20-12:30\nQ&A\n\n\n\n\n\nLUNCH BREAK \n\n\n\n5G Long Term Evolution –  VIDEO 4 –    Moderator:     Dr. Anastasios Kourtis\, NCSR Demokritos\n\n\n13:30-13:40\nINSPIRE-5Gplus\nUwe Herzog\nEURESCOM\n\n\n13:40-13:50\nARIADNE\nLazarakis Fotis\nNCSR Demokritos\n\n\n13:50-14:00\nQ&A\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n5G In Security –   VIDEO 5     –  Moderator:     Dr. Dimitris Tsolkas\, FOGUS Innovations\n\n\n14:00-14:10\nRESPOND-A\nAnastasios Kourtis\nNCSR Demokritos\n\n\n14:10-14:20\nSPIDER\nChristos Xenakis\nUniversity of Piraeus\n\n\n14:20-14:30\nQ&A\n\n\n\n\n\n
