SUMMARY:W4: 5G-enabled safety and support services for cooperative\, connected and automated mobility
DESCRIPTION:Safety and support services running on top of 5G network infrastructures have a great opportunity to facilitate cooperative\, connected and automated mobility (CCAM) for automotive and transport verticals in a variety of road conditions and operational environments. As the rollouts of commercial 5G networks continue all over the world\, the increasing coverage and continuously evolving capabilities of the technology make it an ideal connectivity platform for a variety of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication scenarios. Critical network-based services enhancing the road traffic safety are able to exploit the ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) services offered by 5G. Other non-critical support services can rely on enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and massive machine type communications (mMTC) services provided by 5G networks and facilitate the operation of the intelligent road transport systems as well as the comfort and wellbeing of the drivers and passengers. \nThe aim of the workshop is to exploit these opportunities from several perspectives. First\, the workshop distributes the latest results assessing the suitability of the currently standardised 5G functionalities in a variety of CCAM scenarios. Second\, the workshop discusses the gaps identified in the existing 5G capabilities when it comes to the heterogeneous requirements\, stemming from these scenarios\, and offers new technological solutions to fill the identified gaps. Third\, the workshop considers novel services and concepts that 5G networks would enable to improve the safety and performance of CCAM. \nThe workshop is organised by the EU Horizon 2020 5G-HEART and Celtic-Next 5G-SAFE-Plus projects. \n\n\nMore information about the event here.

SUMMARY:5GCroCo Lunchtime Webinar Nr.2: April 12: Challenges and Solutions for V2X Interoperability
DESCRIPTION:Lunchtime Webinar Nr.2 \nWelcome to the second in a planned series of 5GCroco Lunchtime Webinars.  These webinars will address different aspects of the technical work of the 5GCroco project in detail with some time for questions and discussions on the work presented. \nAGENDA: \nSection 3.3.5 of the recently published 5GCroCo Deliverable D3.1 on “Final Application Architecture” explains the challenges and solutions for interoperability around the Anticipated Cooperative Collision Avoidance (ACCA) use case. This use case serves as example to uncover challenges if information\, in this case hazard warnings\, must be shared between different automotive OEMs and between OEMs and different Road Traffic Authorities (RTAs). \n“Standardization” is often considered necessary in this context. \nThis presentation introduces the current and near-future eco-system of information sharing for connected vehicles. It describes how different solutions\, beyond everyone just following the same standard\, can be used to achieve service-level interoperability among different ITS systems and stakeholders. For each solution\, involved stakeholders are identified and their respective effort to establish and maintain (evolve / upgrade) the interoperability solution. \nThe slides can be downloaded here. \nSPEAKER: \nMaciej Muehleisen received his PhD on “Voice over LTE” from RWTH Aachen University in 2015 and worked as a group leader for vehicular communication at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) from 2012 until 2016 focusing on highly reliable aircraft and maritime networks. \nHe is with Ericsson Research since 2017 and leads the architecture work package of the EU funded 5GCroCo projects on 5G for CCAM in cross-border environments. where he also serves as deputy Technical Coordinator. SUMMARY:24th Conference on Innovation in Clouds\, Internet and Networks
DESCRIPTION:5G rollout has started in many parts of the world and is imminent in others. At the same time\, IoT services and applications in vertical areas like industry 4.0\, smart grids\, eHealth and smart cities which utilize the full capabilities of 5G networks are still emerging. Judging by this demand\, massive IoT (mIoT) or massive machine-type communication (mMTC) has been identified as one of the three main communication scenarios for 5G. For enabling and accelerating the large-scale rollout of 5G-based IoT solutions in a wide range of vertical sectors\, large-scale validation trials are an important step. \nThe workshop aims to gather the results of such validation trials for 5G-based IoT solutions in Europe and beyond. In addition to presenting the technological progress and insights gained from these validation trials\, the workshop will also foster a multidisciplinary discussion between industry and academia\, ICT providers and verticals as well as between the 5G and the IoT research communities. This productive exchange is expected to lead to an identification of existing R&D challenges and new insights on how to address them. \nThe workshop is organized in cooperation with the 5G EVE\, 5G-VINNI\, and 5GENESIS projects. The workshop specifically invites papers on relevant validation trials performed by verticals on the large-scale experimental platforms provided (i.e. 5G infrastructure projects of the 5G PPP or other projects or activities). Papers on validation trials for 5G-based IoT solutions performed in other experimental environments are equally welcome. \nMore information about this event here.

SUMMARY:5G-SMART Webinar on “5G TSN deployment model and time synchronization aspects”
DESCRIPTION:The 5G-SMART project is organizing a webinar entitled “5G TSN deployment model and time synchronization aspects”   on 29 January\, 2021 at 3 pm CET with 90 minutes duration. \n\nBook your agenda for this event and register your anticipated participation here.\nDetails for the webinar link will be given on the 27th of January.\n\n  \nAbstract:  5G supports wireless ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC) and has introduced new architectural options such as standalone non-public networks and public network integrated non-public network (PNI-NPN) to enable smart manufacturing use cases. 5G standardization has specified interworking of 5G with TSN so that 5G acts as virtual 5G TSN bridge in a TSN network. This allows to support TSN-based time-critical communication in an integrated 5G-TSN network\, including time synchronization. This webinar presents how 5G can be deployed together with TSN for industrial automation\, by looking into specific manufacturing use cases. These include advanced industrial robotics controlled from the cloud\, communication between industrial controllers\, the centralized control of an AGV fleet\, and adaptive production based on real-time monitoring of the production process. Further\, 5G time synchronization deployment aspects are presented. \n  \nBelow are the webinar speakers: \n\nDr. Joachim Sachs (Ericsson) is a Senior Expert at Ericsson Research in Stockholm\, and coordinates research activities on 5G for industrial Internet of Things solutions and cross-industry research collaborations. After studies in Germany\, Norway\, France and Scotland he received a diploma degree in electrical engineering from Aachen University (RWTH)\, Germany\, and a PhD degree from the Technical University of Berlin. He joined Ericsson in 1997 and has worked on a variety of topics in the area of wireless communication systems\, and has contributed to the standardization of 3G\, 4G and 5G. Since 1995 he has been active in the IEEE and the German VDE Information Technology Society (ITG)\, where he is currently co-chair of the technical committee on communication networks. In 2009 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University\, USA. Dr. Sachs was a recipient of the Ericsson Inventor of the Year award in 2006\, and in 2010 he received the research award of the Vodafone foundation for scientific research.\nDr. Daniel Philip Venmani (Orange) is a senior research and standardization engineer at Orange Labs\, Lannion. His primary research activities focus towards the development of future mobile transport networks\, recently focusing on 5G end-to-end connectivity network architectures. He is very actively involved in Standardization activities – representing Orange at ITU‐T Study Group 15 – Question 13 (Network Synchronization and Time Distribution Performance group)\, Question 12 (Transport Network Architecture Group)\, IEEE1588\, IEEE802.1\, O-RAN WG9 etc. He has been involved in several EU funded research projects over the years and has published his research results in several renounced conferences and journals (IEEE ComMag.\, IEEE Globecom\, ACM MobiCoM\, etc)). He obtained his Ph.D from UPMC-Paris VI (France).\n\n  \nThe vision of the 5G-SMART project (www.5gsmart.eu) is to empower Europe’s manufacturing sector with 5G solutions by integrating 5G in the manufacturing ecosystem\, resulting in an accelerated digital transformation. This is done within the project by demonstrating and validating 5G in real-world factory setups\, exploring the roles of mobile network operators and new business models as well as developing new 5G features targeting the manufacturing sector. 5G-SMART lead by Ericsson brings together a strong consortium of partners involved in every aspect of the manufacturing ecosystem. \n  \nPlease feel free to further distribute this information to interested colleagues. \nThank you for your anticipated participation! \nLink for the registration: https://forms.gle/dr6JETBqxbRwx1wK8
