SUMMARY:TERAWAY Workshop "Photonic integration as a key enabling technology for 6G and beyond" @EuCNC 2022
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nTERAWAY is a project designed to address wireless network challenging requirements imposed by 5G verticals and B5G/6G use cases i.e.\, ultra-high capacity\, ultra-broadband connectivity\, reliability and latency requirements\, exploiting Terahertz (THz) wireless communication technology\, by leveraging optical concepts and photonic integration techniques. The project is in the process of designing and fabricating groundbreaking transceiver modules operating at the range 92 – 322 GHz\, offering up to 241 Gb/s data rate with transmission reach more than 400 m. The solution is integrated by the implementation of a new software defined networking (SDN). The proposed workshop aims\, on one hand\, at propagating the project’s advancements and novelties in photonic technology and their appliance in the future generations of wireless communications networks. On the other hand\, it aims at contributing to the evolving dialogue regarding the concerned technologies among research\, regulatory and  industry communities by means of sharing research findings as well as identifying chanllenges and gaps. EuCNC & 6G Summit is the right forum to realise this objective\, since it attracts significant actors from all above mentioned realms and promotes the dialogue among them. \nThe proposed workshop is designed to address multiple “TRACKS” as those are identified by EuCNC & 6G Summit\, i.e.: \n\n6ET – Technologies for Tbps transmission (Session A)\n6ET – Novel network architectures (Session B)\n6ET – New transceiver architectures and computing paradigms (Session C)\nPHY – Beyond 5G & 6G and THertz communications (Session A)\nNET – New network protocols and architectures (Session B)\nNET – Software defined networking (Session B)\nCME – Antenna design and integration (Session C)\n\nThe proposed workshop’s speaker – list includes two renowned keynote speakers-external to the project team; Tadao Nagatsuma (Osaka U\, Japan)\, Prof. Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig) who are invited to complement the workshop’s theme by discussing photonic technology adoption by the wireless communications and pertinent initiatives in the research and development\, regulatory and business realms. \nStructure\nThe format of the workshop is presentations\, and it will be rolled out in three sessions: Session A with duration 1h 30\, Session B with duration 45 min and Session C with duration 45min. \nSession A – mmW/THz communications’ landscape (1h 30min\, incl. Q&A) \n\nKeynote “Future outlook to Terahertz communications” Prof. Tadao Nagatsuma (Osaka U\, Japan)\nKeynote “Spectrum regulations for Terahertz communications: Trends and needs” Prof. Thomas Kürner (TU Braunschweig\, Germany).\n“mmWave & TeraHertz wireless network (transport) applications” Eduardo Yusta-Padilla (Telefónica\, Spain)\n\nSession B: Network architecture for mmWave & TeraHertz communications (45min\, incl. Q&A) \n\nTHz integration into 3GPP network slicing (Dr. Jose Costa-Requena)\nTHz management controller (ONF) (Dr. Nicola Carapellese)\n\nSession C: Photonics-enabled wireless transceivers (45min\, incl. SUMMARY:COREnect workshop on "Telecommunications and microelectronics: How should Europe (re)-act?" at EuCNC & 6G Summit 2022
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe COREnect project is developing a 5G/6G strategic roadmap for future European connectivity systems and components (*). Two workshops are organised in June 2022 to discuss the various aspects of this roadmap. \nThe Workshop “Telecommunications and microelectronics: How should Europe (re)-act?” EuCNC & 6G Summit 2022 organised on June 7\, 2022 @14:00–15:30/16:00-17:30 CEST ranks among the two Workshops. This workshop aims to present the key findings of the three COREnect Expert Groups to a broad ICT audience. The EuCNC conference offers a unique opportunity to disseminate these findings\, and also allows the exchange of ideas and opinions from the participants from the telecommunications sector. \nRegistration at EuCNC is mandatory to attend the workshop. \nMore information on the workshop\, including the agenda available here. \nMore details on EuCNC\, including registration here.

SUMMARY:EMPOWER Workshop "EmpoweringTransatlantic platforms for 5G Advanced and 6G networks" @EuCNC
DESCRIPTION:EMPOWER 5G PPP project organises a Workshop on “EmpoweringTransatlantic platforms for 5G Advanced and 6G networks” at EuCNC 2022 in Grenoble\, France on June 7 @14:00-15:30/16:00-17:30 CEST. \nVarious countries and regions have already announced formal plans of government support for their research and development efforts that will define 6G. One of the primary missions of this workshop is to bring industry\, government\, and academia to the table to begin working on testbed requirements much earlier in the innovation lifecycle than has been done for previous generations. The enabling technologies such as separation between the network and the compute\, virtualization\, distribution and Cloud SaaS afford us the opportunity to define physical and digital platforms for at-scale research and experimentation. This trend is going to impact the telecommunication and computer-based sectors\, from design to products to operation and this is where the testbeds meet the network as a fully controllable\, programmable virtualized test platform. The science of Digital Infrastructures raises multiple complex challenges to the research community that already started to explore them in the context of the forthcoming 6G. Experimentation is becoming an even more important methodology to assess and qualify the diverse design assumptions and choices in realistic conditions. It is now timely not only to strengthen existing facilities ready for 5G testing but most importantly start developing early 6G platforms as most components are software-based. This is the motivation for developing a holistic approach where all resources (compute\, storage\, network) are associated to continuously design\, operate and automate the full life cycle management of applications and services. Experimental platforms should be able to address the end-to-end scenario\, integrating all technologies and components. Such platform will allow researcher and industry to question scientific challenges regarding the future technologies and services. They will be based on a technology roadmap that will be consolidated on the basis of the analysis of several inputs provided by the community regarding the wireless technology advances\, that are pertinent to the evolution of new radio (NR) and core network (CN) unti-2030. It is important to note that initiatives exist at the international level with ambitious projects and programmes like EU ESFRI SLICES (2021- 2040\, 150M€)\, EC H2020 5G Infrastructure PPP (2015-2023\, 700 M€) and forthcoming EC HEU SNS JU (2022-2030\, 900 M€)\, in the US (NSF PAWR 2017-2022 100M$\, NSF FABRIC 2019-2024 20M€)\, BRIDGES (2021-2024\, 2.5M$) and China (CENI 018-2022 190M€)\, and efforts also developing in Japan.
